Erstallt vum Red Sappers Dudelange

The Sappers split the doubleheader against Trier last weekend.

These games proved that the level of play in the league is very high this year and that none of those games can be taken lightly. Currently the Sappers are last with 3 losses and only one win. They hope to fix that this upcoming weekend against a very tough opponent from Mainz.

Here is a short summary of the doubleheader.

Game 1: The Sappers take a 21-5 loss in which starting pitcher Godoy never found his grove. He was pitching through a lot of trouble early and would never get a good rythm going. The starting pitcher of the Cardinals had a very good day and was mixing up his pitches very well keeping a good sappers lineup off balance. The score wouldn't have been so inflated if it wasn't for the top of the 7th inning where the cardinals scored 8 runs. That inning was a very long and ugly one, fortunately the Sappers were able to regroup and take game 2.

Game 2: The Sappers got their first win of the season thanks to a dominant pitching performance by Pena. He was aided by a few beautiful defensive plays for example on one grounder to short Nickels showed of his range and arm and got the runner easily. Another huge play was a diving catch in right center field with 2 outs and bases loaded in the top of the 5th inning by Fermin J. He not only took a hit away but also saved 3 runs. The Sappers also had a better game at the plate scoring runs throughout the game. Final score 10-2.

So let's hope that the Sappers can continue this trend next weekend against Mainz in Trier. First pitch at noon!
